A LESSON SERIES

LEARNING

BATA-RUMBA

  • Learn to play conga, bell and stick patterns from master drummer and percussionist Richard Marquez

  • WHAT TO EXPECT

The class will cover mostly Rumba (Yambú, Guaguancó, Columbia, Guarapachangero and Bata-Rumba) from the very basic down beats of the shaker (acheré) pattern all the way to the various syncopated upbeats of the Quinto and Bata drums.

  • ALL LEVELS WELCOME

Because Rumba consists of both simple and complex patterns played simultaneously, beginning, intermediate and advanced students can participate collectively and progress at their own pace.

  • RHYTHM & MELODY

In a group "Rumba," students will be exposed to an array of Cuban instruments, including the acheré, kata, clave, tumbadora, conga, quinto, and bata drums. Finally, Rumba is not complete without melody. Students will learn the traditional songs of Cuba passed down over the generations and discover the origins of “Salsa” both new and old.
